Fog 1: Young Muir Men

Metal Point on Hand Made Gesso Panels

My artwork, rooted in a synthesis of classical techniques and contemporary vision, delves into the exploration of luminosity, unseen communication, and the essence of light and the elements. Through practices such as metalpoint on handmade gesso panels shown above or painting mediums such as oil, I aim to transcend mere representation, inviting viewers into a deeper engagement with the nature of reality itself.

I've come to understand that perceiving the world's appearances as "foggy," perhaps even with a hint of carmine in the atmosphere, is to glimpse reality in its most authentic form— an endless, ever-evolving mystery. This perspective is influenced by the very environment I inhabit, particularly the enigmatic fog that blankets the Bay Area, a constant, dynamic veil that both obscures and reveals. My organic forms, inspired by nature and the human figure, capture this perpetual interplay of light and formlessness, reflecting a world that is alive, dynamic, and constantly transforming.

My choice of materials is purposeful and steeped in tradition. I work with silver, gold, and other metals not only for their unique aesthetic qualities but also for their historical association with healing properties. This practice directly connects me to the ancient techniques utilized by my artistic mentors centuries ago, weaving me into a lineage of artistic tradition that honors the profound relationship between art, material, and well-being. Furthermore, the Sanskrit root 'tan'—meaning "to weave" or "compose"—resonates deeply with my process, symbolizing the intricate composition of my artworks and the interconnectedness they aim to foster.

Ultimately, my pieces offer viewers a profound connection to this elemental world, inviting a sense of reverence and contemplation. They serve as a grounding presence and a source of quiet energy, providing a space for reflection and a powerful reminder of the interconnectedness of humanity and nature. Whether through the subtle shifts of light on a metalpoint surface or the rich depth of color and light reflection in oil, my art endeavors to bring a lasting sense of beauty and meaning, resonating deeply within the viewer's experience.
